San Miguel is famous for its shopping, because it is located in the hearland of the country, artisans from every part of Mexico have been known to send their artwork to San Miguel to be sold. San Miguel is famous for its Silver, Puter, hand woven rugs and many other arts and crafts. Being an artist community it is also fantastic shopping for sculpture, paintings etc.

Markets

The Tuesday Market - A raucous and wonderful weekly festival...produce, fresh fish, antiques, traditional medicines, bootleg CD’s, mountains of used clothing, & even lunch for the brave!

The Artisan's Market - located behind the big central market on the north side of town, the Artisan's Market meanders down two blocks to exit on Relox Street. Hundreds of stands display traditional and innovative Mexican handicrafts and decorative items. You'll find many of the same items in the Centro stores, but at much better prices.

Arts and Crafts
There is so much folk art in San Miguel, just walking down the street you are bound to find artisans selling hand made mats, baskets, hats, as well as dolls. The Artisan's market has plenty to offer as well, as do some of the shops in the down town area. One thing to check out is that at the Instituto Allende they often have an arts and crafts fair I woul say at least once a month. There is also a Lana y Laton festival around the end of november that has art and goods from all over Mexico.
