San Miguel de Allende has become one of the most popular places in the world to visit. Located in the center of colonial Mexico it has it is known as birthplace of Mexican independence. Tourists flock to for the fiestas as well as the beautiful setting of this colonial town. In the 50’s San Miguel became known as an art community the town is full of galleries and art schools. For many people a visit is not enough and they decide to move to, or retire in Mexico. The Center of the town is called “El Jardin”. El Jardin or the garden in English is a colonial center square with trees and a gazebo as well as benches and vendors. To the south side is the historic main church La Parroquia built in neo gothic style. To the east is Ingnacio Allende’s house and now museum and the rest of el jardin is surrounded by arches and restaurants and shops.

San Miguel de Allende is located about 3 and a half hours north of Mexico City and is easily reachable by the airports of Mexico City, Queretaro, 45 min, and Leon or Bajio airport. If you do decide to visit San Miguel, Mexico City may be worth a stop too. It is full of museums and fine restaurants and everything to do.
